A: Yu-Tong Xie / Czech Landscapes
체코인들은 종종 자신들의 나라를 유럽의 심장부라고 자부한다. 체코는 동유럽이 아니라 중부 유럽에 속해 있으며, 그 위치는 늘 ‘사이’에 놓여 있다. 개방성과 보수성 사이, 기쁨과 고통 사이, 소련과 미국 사이. 체코는 Škoda 자동차와도 같다. 잘 달리지만, Volkswagen과 LADA의 중간 어딘가에 존재한다.
‘중심’이라는 개념은 또 다른 의미를 지닌다. 바로 ‘주변부’다. 체코는 서유럽의 가장자리에 있으면서 동시에 동유럽의 가장자리에 놓여 있다. 이러한 주변부성은 지리적 경계에 국한되지 않고, 눈에 보이지 않는 곤경으로 확장된다. Munich Agreement에서 Prague Spring에 이르기까지, 체코슬로바키아는 지속적으로 가장자리에 머물 수밖에 없었다. Velvet Revolution 이후에도 이러한 조건은 해소되지 않았고, 오히려 다른 형태로 조용히 되돌아왔다.
이 작업은 글로벌 자본주의가 Czech Republic에 미친 특유의 영향을 탐구한다. 신자유주의적 전환, 피해자로서의 자기 인식, 반복되는 주변화의 과정은 공간이 형성되는 방식 속에서 시각화된다. 외부자의 시선으로 바라본 이 풍경 속에는 집단 기억에 남은 역사적 트라우마, 사회공학의 유산, 중공업의 흔적, 의심스러운 재개발, 성 관광과 같은 경계 산업들이 뒤엉켜 있다. 이 모든 요소는 탈산업화 이후의 풍경 속에서 사람들이 불확실한 변화와 공존하는 방식을 드러낸다.

“변경될 수 없는 미래의 그 결말에서, 그곳에 있는 또 다른 나는 또 다른 너와 함께 살아가고 있을 것이다.”
이 이야기는 평범하고 고요한 삶을 살던 한 남자와 한 여자를 주인공으로 삼는다. 우연히 수많은 섬광 속에서 여러 개의 대체 우주로 진입하게 되며, 그들은 새로운 여정을 시작하고 충격적인 진실과 마주한다.
끊임없이 솟아오르는 의심의 소용돌이 속에서, 비합리적인 세계에서 살아남기 위해 전혀 새로운 청춘 어드벤처가 시작된다.
C: Wen-Chiang Lin & Ting-Yu Hsieh / Black&White JAZZ
사진을 매체로 선택한 Wen-Chiang Lin은 의식과 상실의 상태가 동시에 존재하는 순간에 사진을 찍는다. 그의 사진은 새와 같다. 날고, 멈추고, 다시 날아오른다. 이번 작업에서 Lin은 음악가 Ting-Yu Hsieh와 협업하여, Lin의 이미지가 Hsieh의 재즈 선율 속을 자유롭게 비행하도록 구성했다.

나는 가족과 함께 여행을 떠나는 꿈을 꾸었다. 조수석에 앉은 나는 엄마를 도와 핸들과 브레이크를 잡고 있었다. 우리는 어딘가에 멈춰 서서 빙수를 사 먹었고, 나는 밀크티 캔 두 개—wheat black milk tea와 Assam milk tea—도 함께 샀다. 가게 주인은 총액이 500달러라고 말했다. 이상하다고 생각한 나는 거스름돈을 주지 않았느냐고 물었고, 그는 주지 않았다고 답했다.
그는 몰래 친구에게 내가 모르는 틈을 타 가격을 올렸다고, 나를 이용하고 싶었다고 말했다. 나는 머리를 감싸 쥐고 땅에 무릎을 꿇은 채 큰 소리로 울었다. 나는 아무것도 스스로 지켜낼 수 없는 사람이라고 생각했다. 그리고 눈을 떴을 때, 그것은 그저 몹시 지친 잠이었다는 것을 알게 되었다.
E: Yu-Zhen Wu / tshinn-á (III)
빈랑은 나의 어린 시절을 구성하는 퍼즐 조각이다. 방과 후 또래 아이들과 빈랑 농장 주변에서 뛰놀던 기억을 나는 잊을 수 없다. 때때로 할머니와 함께 빈랑을 자르는 일을 도와야 했다. 내 고향 Meishan에서 빈랑은 중요한 산업이다.
감정과 이성을 엮어가며, 나는 이 평범하지만 낯선 공간들을 사진으로 바라보기로 했다. 그 공간 안으로 들어가 사람들과 관계를 맺다 보면, 언제나 예상치 못한 보상이 기다리고 있다.
SpringBao Press, a periodical publication devoted to photography, invites artists to publish works in the form of a serial in each issue. SpringBao Press aims to use paper print and large format to showcase photography, and hopes to evoke the reader’s interest in photography as art. The front page is catered for our film challenge project: the invited artist must shoot an entire roll of film, then have it developed and scanned with no editing permitted, and display the images as a contact print. The front page also consists of multiple columns.

A: Yu-Tong Xie / Czech Landscapes
Czechs often proudly say that their country is the heart of Europe. They are not located in Eastern Europe but in Central Europe. The Czech position is one of being in between—between openness and conservatism, between joy and pain, between the Soviet Union and the United States. The Czech Republic is like a Škoda car: it runs well, but it exists somewhere between Volkswagen and LADA. The center also carries another meaning: the periphery. It is on the edge of Western Europe, and likewise on the edge of Eastern Europe. This idea of the periphery reflects not just a geographical boundary but also an intangible predicament. From the Munich Agreement to the Prague Spring, Czechoslovakia was perpetually trapped in the margins. After the Velvet Revolution, this predicament did not dissolve but instead quietly returned in a new guise.
This body of work seeks to explore the unique impacts of global capitalism on the Czech Republic. The neoliberal transition, the self-perception as victims, and the repeated processes of marginalization are visualized through the shaping of space. Seen through the eyes of an outsider, elements such as historical trauma from collective memory, the legacy of social engineering, the traces of heavy industry, dubious reclamations, sex tourism, and other border industries are intertwined. Together, they reveal how people coexist with the landscapes of a postindustrial era, facing an uncertain transformation.

“ In that finale lying in the future where nothing can be changed, the other me who is there will go on living with the other you.”
This story revolves around a young man and woman as protagonists who have been living an ordinary and tranquil life until accidentally, they enter, amidst waves of flashes , into several alternate universes and embark on a new journey, and because of this they discover a shocking truth.
In the vortex of doubt that continuously emerges, in an unreasonable world, to survive, an all-new youth adventure story begins.
C: Wen-Chiang, Lin＆Ting-Yu, Hsieh / Black&White JAZZ
Wen-Chiang Lin, who chooses photography as his medium, photographs when he is in a state of awareness and being lost at the same time. The photographed images are like birds—flying, stopping, stopping, flying. This time Lin collaborates with Ting-Yu Hsieh, a music artist, with Lin’s images flying freely in Hsieh’s jazz melodies.
D: HUANG JIAO / Stay
I dreamt of going on a trip with my family, and I, who was sitting in the passenger’s seat, was helping my mother with steering and braking. We stopped at some place to buy shaved ice, and I also bought then packets of wheat black milk tea and Assam milk tea in cans. The shop owner said the total came to 500 dollars. I thought it was odd, and asked if he hadn’t given me change. He said he hadn’t. Then he stealthily told his friend that he actually marked up the price, that he wanted to take advantage of me. I held my head and kneeled down on the ground crying out loud, thinking that I was incapable of fighting for anything, then I opened my eyes and felt that I just had a tired sleep.

Betel nut is a puzzle piece of my childhood. I can't forget the playing days after school with other kids around the betel nut yard. Sometimes I had to stay with my grandma to help cutting the betel nuts. In my hometown, Meishan, betel nut is an important business. Thus, weaving emotion with rationality, I decided to see these ordinary but unfamiliar spaces through photographs. Step into the spaces and interact with the people, there are always extraordinary rewards waiting.
