베이징을 기반으로 활동하는 캐나다 출신 뮤지션 Simon Frank의 《So Dream It》은 6곡의 오리지널 트랙과 Angel Wei, Lujiachi의 리믹스를 담은 앨범이다. 클럽 Zhao Dai와 언더그라운드 록 공간 Fruityspace를 오가며 활동해온 그의 음악은 포스트 펑크, 애시드 하우스, EBM, 신스팝을 뒤섞으며 도시적인 긴장감을 만들어낸다. 날카로운 신스와 반복적인 베이스라인, 샘플링된 퍼커션 위로 펼쳐지는 가사는 권력과 환상 대신 도시 환경 속에서 무너져가는 개인의 불안과 자기비하를 담아낸다.
So Dream It is a new album by Beijing-based Canadian musician Simon Frank, featuring six original tracks alongside remixes by Angel Wei and Lujiachi. Blending electronic post-punk, acid house, EBM, and synth-pop, the album reflects Frank’s unique place within Beijing’s underground scene, moving between clubs and DIY venues. Driven by sharp synth tones, rigid basslines, and restless rhythms, the record replaces genre clichés of power and excess with self-deprecating lyrics about urban pressure, alienation, and emotional collapse.
”So Dream It” is a new album by Beijing-based Canadian musician Simon Frank, featuring six original tracks, and remixes from Angel Wei and Lujiachi.
Simon occupies an unique position within Beijing’s music community, equally likely to be found playing live at dance club Zhao Dai and psychedelic rock dive Fruityspace. Inseparable from live performance and their author’s experience of the city, the songs on “So Dream It” fall between set categories, merging electronic post punk with acerbic acid house synth tones, and punctuating low-slung rhythms with sampled shouts and percussion.
While the music’s relentless propulsion and staccato bass lines recall EBM and seamier strains of Benelux synth pop, Simon’s lyrics sidestep the fantasies of power that often define these genres, opting instead for deflated self-deprecation as he depicts protagonists cracking under the pressure of a harsh urban environment.
