sunmyeong - sunmyeong / 선명 - 선명 (CD)
선명은 박희수와 조지수로 이루어진 팀이다. 이번 앨범에는 타이틀곡 ‘여름’을 포함해 총 5곡이 수록되어 있다.
함께 겪은 기억을 각자의 시선으로 해석하고 공유해 곡을 만들고 각 곡이 가지고 있는 테마와 어울리는 요소들을 여러 장르에서 차용해 하나의 앨범으로 엮어냈다.
각자가 영향받은 포스트록, 일렉트로닉, 슈게이즈, 시모키타케이, 노이즈 뮤직, 그리고 한국의 여러 인디 음악들을 바탕으로 장르적 결합을 시도하였으며 앨범을 관통하는 사운드로 보이스 샘플과 글리치 사운드를 적극적으로 활용해 선명의 사운드를 구축했다. 멤버 각각의 언어로 소리를 만들고 이를 하나의 음악으로 융합하는 과정을 거치며 새로운 형태와 장르의 앨범으로 완성하였다.
이번 앨범은 곡의 시작과 녹음, 믹싱, 피지컬 앨범의 디자인까지 모두 DIY방식으로 진행되었다. 앨범의 사운드로부터 시작해 커버 아트 디자인까지 최대한 선명의 의도대로 전달하려 하였다. 최대한 직접 악기를 연주하고 녹음하며 원하는 소리를 찾았고 자체적으로 믹스를 진행해 각 노래의 테마와 맞는 질감을 표현하려 하였다. 두 멤버의 취향과 성향을 조율 해가며 서로가 서로를 프로듀싱 하는 식으로 작업하였다.
하나의 기억을 매개로 곡을 완성시켜나가면서, 음악을 매개로 할 수 있는 활동은 어디까지 확장될 수 있는지에 대한 고민이 자연스럽게 이어졌다. 더 나아가, 청각이라는 감각이 어떤 다른 감각으로까지 뻗어나갈 수 있을지에 대한 궁금증도 생겼다. 그래서 이번 EP 발매를 기점으로 기억과 시선, 확장이라는 키워드로 활동을 전개해 나갈 예정이다.
Sunmyeong is a duo consisting of Hii Su and Ji Su. The album contains five tracks, including the title track “Summer.”
The duo creates songs by interpreting and sharing memories they experienced together from their own individual perspectives, then draws on elements from various genres that complement the themes of each track to weave them into a single album.
Drawing on post-rock, electronic music, shoegaze, Shimokitazawa-kei, noise music, and various forms of Korean indie music that have influenced them individually, they experiment with combining different genres. They actively incorporate voice samples and glitch sounds as recurring elements throughout the album, establishing Sunmyeong’s distinctive sound. By creating sounds through each member’s own musical language and then merging them into a unified body of music, they have completed an album that takes on a new form and genre.
The entire album was produced through a DIY approach, from the initial development of the songs and recording to mixing and the design of the physical album. Starting with the sound of the album and extending to the cover art, they sought to convey their intentions as fully as possible. They played and recorded the instruments themselves as much as possible in search of the sounds they wanted, and mixed the tracks independently to create textures that correspond with the themes of each song. They worked by coordinating the tastes and inclinations of both members, effectively producing each other throughout the process.
As they developed the songs through the medium of shared memories, they naturally began to consider how far activities mediated by music could be expanded. This also led to a curiosity about how the sense of hearing might extend into other senses. With the release of this EP as a starting point, they plan to develop their activities around the keywords of memory, perspective, and expansion.
